The Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is designed to give an inside look into our day-to-day operation. Come join the fun and reserve your seat to learn exciting facts about the K-9 Unit, Emergency Services Team, Forensics/Crime Lab, Uniform Patrol, Administration, Criminal Investigations Division, Communications/911, Community Policing, and Corrections, just to name a few.

Who can attend?

Anyone over the age of 18 interested in attending the Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is welcome to apply. Please complete an application and return it to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office in person, by mail, fax 301-475-6865, or email Valerie.Guy@stmaryscountymd.gov. The application will be processed and you will be contacted when the class is scheduled to begin. Please note: class size is limited to 16 people.

When and Where?

The 8-week course is free and held annually between August - October. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office Headquarters, 23150 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, Maryland.

How to Apply:

  1. Obtain Citizens Academy application from the Sheriff's Office Headquarters Station Clerk or by contacting the program coordinator at 301-475-4200 x1910.
  2. Applications may be returned to the Sheriff's Office in person, mailed, faxed, or emailed to Valerie.Guy@stmaryscountymd.gov.
